INDIANAPOLIS (CARESOURCE) – Çï¿ûapp, a leading nonprofit health plan, today announced strategic leadership changes to help drive its new regional market model. Steve Smitherman, a recognized leader in Indiana’s health care landscape, has been promoted to regional vice president, Midwest, and Dr. Cameual Wright has been promoted to the role of market president for Indiana.

In his expanded role, Smitherman will oversee the Indiana, Arkansas, Michigan and Kentucky/West Virginia markets, bringing a decade of Çï¿ûapp experience and more than 20 years of health care leadership to this new position. Smitherman played a key role in Çï¿ûapp's success in Indiana, where his leadership helped grow the state’s largest marketplace plan and increased Medicaid market share over the past two years. He is known for spearheading the award-winning Re-Entry Program, which significantly improves the transition process for individuals moving from incarceration back into the community.

Wright will lead Çï¿ûapp’s overall work in Indiana. Wright served as Çï¿ûapp Indiana’s chief medical officer and is highly regarded for her leadership in clinical initiatives that promote health equity and improve access to care for underserved populations. During her tenure, she was instrumental in advancing key initiatives such as the Health Equity and Advocacy Team (HEAT) and expanding partnerships with providers and community organizations.

“Over the last decade, Çï¿ûapp has made a real impact on the lives of Hoosiers, and I’m proud to have been a part of that journey,” Smitherman said. “In this new role, I look forward to working with our teams across the Midwest to continue driving innovative solutions that improve the health and quality of life of those we serve.”

“Stepping into this role allows me to further elevate the work Çï¿ûapp Indiana is doing to ensure all members, especially those with complex needs, receive the high-quality care they deserve,” Dr. Wright said. “As market president, my focus will remain on creating collaborative, evidence-based solutions that improve health outcomes for Hoosiers while continuing to address critical social determinants of health.”

Çï¿ûapp President and CEO Erhardt Preitauer added, “Steve has been an extraordinary leader who not only helped establish Çï¿ûapp as a force in Indiana but also helped redefine how we serve vulnerable populations. His ability to build innovative programs that truly make a difference will now extend across the Midwest, which is an exciting next chapter for Çï¿ûapp. Dr. Wright is a visionary with deep expertise and an unwavering commitment to equity and quality care. I’m confident her leadership will continue to bring transformative solutions that drive better health outcomes across Indiana.”
